Jak donosi portal www.odnawialnezrodlaenergii.pl na początku marca 2017 r. rozstrzygnięty został przetarg, na mocy którego wybudowana zostanie elektrownia słoneczna dla wojska. Jest to poniekąd zastanawiająca sytuacja, jako że plan energetyczny stworzony przez Trumpa przewiduje rozwój krajowego wydobycia gazu i ropy oraz węgla. Nie ujęto w nim jednak planów rozwoju energetyki odnawialnej. Amerykańska armia w pewnym stopniu korzysta już z energii odnawialnej (w 2015 3 TWh). Fotowoltaika jest wykorzystywana zarówno do zasilania baz na terenie USA, jak i poza granicami. Trwają również prace zmierzające do wykorzystania alternatywnych rozwiązań w transporcie. Czy ta tendencja zostanie utrzymana?
